Cars & Gas
I have been in the market for a new car now for the past few months and still haven't decided exactly what I want to drive. I have had an SUV for the last 5 or so years, so I am used to driving a big car. The problem is that gas is too expensive to really continue along this track.
I have settled into a list of a few different makes and models that include the Pontiac Vibe, the Subaru Baja, the Dodge Caliber, the Jeep Compass, Patriot or Commander or another smaller SUV. Having driven my father's car for the past month and a half while he has been out of commission on crutches, I have also been seriously considering a convertible.
My top choice is the Baja, though they only made them for 4 seasons, so there is a certain lore surrounding them. Those who have them don't want to give them up and those that are given up are marked up tremendously.
I am also very drawn to the newest gimick that Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge is offering. If you haven't seen this yet, check it out. They are offering guaranteed $2.99 gas for 3 years up to a pre-determined amount of gallons. It generally comes out to about 12,000 miles worth of gas per year. With gas prices the way they are now that's a savings of at least $500 a year...
Only time will tell what I end up driving for the next few years (at least), but one thing is for sure now...I've thought more about this purchase than any prior one!
I brought my Baja Sport in 2003. Very little trouble and pretty handy. Only car that was worth buying new.
